BPOM to submit lab results to police, refuses to announce findings

F

ood and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) head Roy Sparringa says the agency has finished lab testing alleged synthetic rice, yet he is refusing to reveal the results as they are the subject of a National Police investigation.

The detective division of the National Police, the BPOM and the Trade Ministry have been working to investigate a case of alleged synthetic rice, following the report of a porridge seller named Dewi Septiani in Mustika Jaya, Bekasi, West Java involving pictures of fake rice uploaded to social media.

The Agriculture Ministry, the Bekasi Police, and Bekasi Industry and Trade Agency, among others, are also involved in the investigation.

'€œThe lab testing has finished. As the sample was the subject of a National Police investigation, we will send the results of the test to the police,'€ he said by text message on Saturday.

The BPOM received the rice sample from the Bekasi Police on Tuesday.

The lab test aimed to uncover the alleged synthetic compounds in the rice and also determine the risks it could do to a human body.

The National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Agus Rianto said that the detective division had not yet received the test results.

'€œThe investigators said they had not received the lab results. Hopefully, they would be sent on Monday, but we don'€™t know yet,'€ he told The Jakarta Post on the phone. (fsu)(++++)
