The run is to start and finish at the National Monument (Monas) with a route that follows Jl. Budi Kemuliaan, Jl. Abdul Muis, Jl. Majapahit and Jl. Gadjah Mada. The competition, held by the Jakarta Sports and Youth Agency and PT Nestle's Milo brand, expects a total of 35,000 runners to participate.
Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said the city would provide prizes for the winners totaling up to Rp 911 million (US$69,400).
'Many Jakartans are not used to a healthy lifestyle. We encourage residents to participate in order to understand the benefits of running,' Ahok said at City Hall on Friday.
Kenyan athletes dominate the international competitor's list, as released by the organizers, with four in the men's and three in the women's section. The remainder are Italian and Ethiopian citizens.
Jauhari Johan and Yahuza are among Indonesia's male athletes, while the notable female Indonesian athletes include Yulianingsih and Erni Ulatningsih.
