The Siak District Court in Riau on Thursday sentenced to death two people for possession of eight tons of marijuana
The Siak District Court in Riau on Thursday sentenced to death two people for possession of eight tons of marijuana.
Sorta Riua Neva, who presided over a panel of judges, said in the court hearing in Siak Sri Indrapura that AR Ibrahim, a 48-year-old resident of Bandung, and M. Jamil, 32, a resident of North Jakarta, were proven to be the owners of the marijuana and they were found guilty of violating the 2009 Narcotics Law.
'The two defendants are convincingly proven guilty of masterminding the marijuana's transportation from Aceh to Jakarta,' said Sorta.
The case came to light when the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) stopped a truck transporting eight tons of marijuana in Kandis, Riau, on Oct. 24, 2014. The truck, driven by Jamil, was on its way from Aceh to Jakarta. Three members of the truck's crew, including Jamil, are facing further narcotic charges at the same court.(+++)
