Chief of the policeâs detective corps Comr
hief of the police's detective corps Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso declined to report his wealth to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as is required by the law and, instead, challenged the commission to launch an investigation if it was so interested.
'I do not want to report [my wealth]. Ask the KPK itself to fill in the wealth form,' he said at the National Police headquarters on Friday.
Budi denied that his stance violated the law, saying that not reporting his wealth was not crime.
Budi said it would be more objective if the commission looked into his wealth rather than if he simply reported it.
'That will be more objective. The KPK has its team to probe into my wealth. If state officials are asked to complete the form themselves, its content could be different,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
In accordance with the law, the commission previously asked Budi to report his wealth and the report was submitted two months after he was appointed to his current post.
KPK spokesperson Priharsa Nugraha said Budi, who was sworn in as chief of the police's detective corps on Jan. 19 this year, to replace Comr. Gen. Suhardi Alius, was required by Law. 28/1999 on state officials who are free from corruption, collusion and nepotism, to report his wealth to the commission.
Budi was formerly angry with the commission that named former police chief hopeful Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan a graft suspect.(rms)(++++)
