Greater Jakarta: Sport cars confiscated over illegal documents

T

he traffic unit of the North Jakarta Police confiscated two luxury cars '€” a Mercedes Benz CLA 200 and a Lotus Evora '€” during at a road block in Kelapa Gading and Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Wednesday after the drivers failed to show vehicle documents.

'€œWe suspected that the cars did not have proper documents,'€ North Jakarta Traffic Unit head Adj. Sr. Comr. Sudharmanto said on Thursday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Sudharmanto said his personnel first confiscated the Mercedes, driven by a 20-year-old man identified as Michael on Jl. Boulevard Raya in Kelapa Gading in the afternoon. '€œHe attempted to speed up when the officers tried to stop the car and ask him for documents. Luckily, we could still chase him,'€ he said.

Meanwhile, the Lotus Evora, driven by Hendra Kosasih, 27, was confiscated on Jl. Pluit Raya in Penjaringan.

'€œWe stopped the car when it was about to enter the Pluit toll gate. We suspected that the license plate was fake,'€ he said.

Sudharmanto said the police later found that the Lotus'€™ license plate was supposed to belong to a 2006 Honda Jazz sedan owned by PT Artha Auto.

'€œConfiscating luxury cars is one of our points of focus in this operation,'€ he said.
