'We suspected that the cars did not have proper documents,' North Jakarta Traffic Unit head Adj. Sr. Comr. Sudharmanto said on Thursday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Sudharmanto said his personnel first confiscated the Mercedes, driven by a 20-year-old man identified as Michael on Jl. Boulevard Raya in Kelapa Gading in the afternoon. 'He attempted to speed up when the officers tried to stop the car and ask him for documents. Luckily, we could still chase him,' he said.
Meanwhile, the Lotus Evora, driven by Hendra Kosasih, 27, was confiscated on Jl. Pluit Raya in Penjaringan.
'We stopped the car when it was about to enter the Pluit toll gate. We suspected that the license plate was fake,' he said.
Sudharmanto said the police later found that the Lotus' license plate was supposed to belong to a 2006 Honda Jazz sedan owned by PT Artha Auto.
'Confiscating luxury cars is one of our points of focus in this operation,' he said.
