Fuel prices to remain unchanged in June: Ministry

T

he government has decided that the retail prices for Premium gasoline, subsidized diesel and kerosene for June will remain unchanged, an official has said, despite an increase in global oil prices during the evaluation period between April 25 and May 24,.

The Energy and Mineral Resource Ministry'€™s director general for oil and gas I Gusti Nyoman Wiratmaja Puja said the government'€™s decision to maintain the current fuel prices was due to the upcoming Ramadhan fasting month.

'€œIn order to maintain economic stability and avoid the effects of increased fuel prices that might burden people during Ramadhan, the government has decided that the retail price for Premium, subsidized diesel and kerosene for June, which will take effect at midnight tonight, will remain unchanged,'€ he said as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Sunday.

Wiratmaja said the price of Premium in the government'€™s working areas, namely outside Bali, Java and Madura, would remain at Rp 7,300 (55 US cents) per liter, while subsidized diesel and kerosene prices would be maintained at Rp 6,900 and Rp 2,500 per liter, respectively.

State oil and gas company Pertamina, he went on, would determine the price of Premium for Bali, Java and Madura after it had liaised with the government and considered social and economic conditions.

Wiratmaja said the government had considered extending the fuel price evaluation period to once every three months from the current once or twice a month, so as to protect people from fluctuating prices.

The government, he added, would evaluate fuel price patterns until October before it decided the exact price evaluation period. (dyl/ebf)(+++)
