ormer Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor Miranda Goeltom walked free on Tuesday after serving a three-year sentence at the Tangerang Women's Penitentiary for bribery.
'Today, Miranda Goeltom is being freed from the Tangerang Women's Penitentiary. She has served her three-year prison sentence,' said the spokesperson for the Law and Human Rights Ministry's Directorate General for Correctional Institutions, Akbar Hadi, in a text message as quoted by kompas.com.
Miranda, who received no remissions to her sentence, was released at 7:30 a.m.
She was detained in June 2012 by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and sentenced by the Jakarta Corruption Court for bribing lawmakers to elect her as senior deputy governor at the central bank in 2004.
Twenty-eight lawmakers were convicted for accepting bribes in the form of traveler's checks worth a total of Rp 20.85 billion (US$1.57 million) through businesswoman Nunun Nurbaeti, who was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for her role in the case. (fsu)(++++)
