Asian start-ups ready to go big

A

number of Asian start-ups, ranging from online fashion advisers to virtual stock trading platforms, are ready to make big waves in the region's fast growing markets.

Virtual trading platform provider TradeHero, online fashion adviser Malong and Beijing-based drone navigation system provider Ehang are upbeat about their future in business as market potential is big within the Asia-Pacific market.

In only around two years since its initial launch, TradeHero had already netted a total of 4 million users as of May this year, with around 70 percent coming from China and the remaining 30 percent coming from countries like the US, Singapore, India and Indonesia.

"We're targeting to have around 7 to 8 million users by the end of this year," TradeHero CEO and cofounder Dinesh Bhatia said in Beijing, adding that the share portion of each market would be maintained.

Beijing-based Ehang, which offers technology that enables users to navigate drones with smart devices such as smartphones and tablets, has sold its products in 70 countries worldwide.

Meanwhile, utilizing artificial intelligence, Malong is on track to launch its fashion advice app to attract fashionistas across the region and the world.

The three start-ups are only a few of hundreds incubated at Microsoft Ventures Beijing, which is Microsoft's start-up accelerator.

Microsoft Ventures Beijing director Frances Du said around 106 start-ups had joined the fray to develop with her institution.

Aiming to scale up its impact on start-ups across the region, Microsoft is now calling for applications from new start-ups to join its seventh batch for incubation at Microsoft Ventures Beijing.

Other than in Beijing, Microsoft has another six ventures located in Bangalore (India), Tel Aviv (Israel), Berlin (Germany), Paris (France), Canada and the US. (koi)(++++)
