The National Police said on Thursday there was a possibility that the adoptive mother of Angeline, an 8-year-old found buried in her family's backyard, could be named a suspect over her death.

"Currently, only one person has been named a suspect, and that's Agus [a former domestic helper]. However, Angeline's [adoptive] mother is currently being interrogated," National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Anton Charliyan said at police headquarters in South Jakarta.

Anton explained that everyone who lived with Angeline would be questioned again to see if their statements matched. This includes her adoptive mother, Margareith Megawe, Margareith'€™s two biological children, two people who rented rooms at Margareith'€™s boarding house and a security guard who once barred Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi from the house.

"We are investigating whether or not Agus received help," he said.

On Wednesday, Angeline was found buried near a chicken coop in the family home's backyard after 23 days of being reported missing.

The body had begun to decay when the police found it covered in a white cloth along with a doll, an adult'€™s black T-shirt and a small pair of blue jeans.

An autopsy conducted by a forensics team revealed that Angeline had been dead for about three weeks. The team also found indications of injuries on the girl'€™s body.

Angeline'€™s mother, who adopted her when she was 3 days old, reported her missing.

The police said had Agus confessed to killing Angeline on the day she went missing and was buried later that evening. (hhr)(+++)
