The sheer variety of talent on show could well be the formula behind the success of Simon Cowell'€™s Britain'€™s Got Talent (BGT) television show.

The show'€™s charms have captivated millions of people across the UK and other countries.

Fan of the show Emma Spencer came all the way from Ireland, queuing for three hours to get free tickets to watch the show'€™s semi-final live with her two brothers.

'€œI always watch it every year and this is my first time at the show. I'€™m very excited to be here,'€ she told The Jakarta Post on semi-final night.

The mixture of different performers with lots of good talent made BGT a fun TV show to watch, she said.

'€œI think Britain'€™s Got Talent is probably the biggest TV show today, and it'€™s pretty big too in Ireland,'€ said Spencer, who admires the dance troupe Diversity, which was a finalist in 2009'€™s BGT.

In addition to amusing performances, the panel of judges '€”
Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams '€” add entertainment value to the show.

Eight-year-old Liam Barden said he liked the show because he was a fan of the multi-talented author and comedian Walliams.

'€œI like the show because I'€™m a fan of David'€™s books and he'€™s so funny,'€ he said.

Many children who attended the live shows brought along copies of Walliams'€™ books, asking him to sign them, and hoping to get a chance to take pictures with him during commercial breaks.

But for Barden the show was more than just a chance to meet his idol, it also encouraged him to keep working on his talent to showcase it to the world one day.

'€œYeah, I want to be on stage too. I want to be a magician and play some cool tricks,'€ he said.

Just like previous seasons, this year'€™s BGT also offered diverse acts, such as dancing, singing, gymnastics, magic, dog acts, impersonators and many more.

'€œI love this year that we'€™ve had more musical theater than ever because that'€™s what I really enjoy,'€ Holden said.

The auditions began in October last year through February to select 45 semifinalists that competed from May 25-29.

In the semi-final shows, the Entity Allstars dance troupe performed an energetic Harry Potter-themed dance show, Michael Late performed an easy-to-follow and entertaining plot for his magic show, the five middle-aged fathers of Old Men Grooving brought some classic but energetic dance movements to the table, and Côr Glanaethwy showcased a world-class choir, taking the judges and audience by storm.

A new Guinness World Record was also set during the semi-final, as Cally the Wonderdog managed to pop 100 balloons in 41.67 seconds, beating a US dog, Anastasia, that previously held the time at 44.9 seconds.

But BGT is not all about perfect acts that please everyone. Eccentric singer-comedian Lorraine Bowen was one odd act that was given the Golden Buzzer '€” a ticket that sends contestants straight into the semi-finals '€” from Walliams.

In the semi-final, Bowen appeared in a silver space suit playing keyboard on top of an ironing board.

She performed a space-themed song with the appearance of aliens and planets in the background. Her performance was praised by Walliams and Holden, but disliked by Cowell.

'€œThe eccentric acts are my absolute favorites and are the reason I liked this show in the first place,'€ Walliams said.

'€œI think that'€™s what is interesting, sometimes people are not necessarily that talented but they can still be hugely entertaining. Ultimately, entertainment value is what we are really looking for,'€ he added.

BGT also recorded another historical hit as The Guardian reported that the final night on May 31 was watched by a peak of more than 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched TV show of 2015 in Britain.

'€œIt was one of the best series we'€™ve done,'€ said Cowell. '€œEvery good year you remember is always because of the talent, not something we did. I think it has to appeal to everyone, from young people to older people.'€
