ANDUNG: The Pasar Sehat Genteng business unit, a social entrepreneurship activity empowering the community in Cilawu, Garut regency, West Java, has been named as a winner in the second edition of the 'What is Out There' Competition in Madrid, Spain, on Monday.
Pasar Sehat Genteng, which literally means the Genteng Healthy Market, is managed by the Setia Bhakti Education Foundation and was the first independent traditional market in Garut. Its founding stemmed from the high poverty levels occurring in the Cilawu district despite a huge potential in agricultural resources that had not been fully tapped.
The foundation chairman Anton Abdul Fatah expressed pride in the achievement. 'Pasar Sehat Genteng has become a foundation for livelihoods for hundreds of families in the region,' Anton said in an email on Friday.
In the final round, Pasar Sehat Genteng was represented by Budi M. Isnaeni, the director, and Taufik Hidayat, the treasurer, who managed to impress the jury.
The organizing committee awarded Pasar Sehat Genteng with investment funds worth ¤2,000 and professional counseling from experts.
