K Ambassador to Indonesia, Moazzam Malik, said the UK was certain that together with China and India, Indonesia would be able to dominate the world's economy in the 21st century, largely due to the huge population of all three countries.
'Based on research by our government, the future of the world's economy will be dominated by countries with the highest populations, which support economic growth potential, such as Indonesia,' he said as quoted by Antara on the celebration of the Queen's birthday in Jakarta on Monday evening.
Ambassador Malik said the UK, as a country with a middle-income population, depended on strong partnership and cooperation with countries like Indonesia.
He said the UK government viewed Indonesia as a unique country, being diverse, democratic and tolerant with a majority Muslim population and the potential to dominate the world's economy.
Therefore, the ambassador said, the UK government had always strived to strengthen cooperation with Indonesia in various fields, such as education, health, and investment.
Several Cabinet ministers were present at the celebration, including Coordinating Economic Minister Sofyan Djalil, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Minister Susi Pudjiastuti and Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Anies Baswedan.
'The Queen's birthday celebration is not only to celebrate the birthday of the British Queen but also to celebrate relations between our two countries. Every year, the amount of UK investment in Indonesia has continued to increase,' said Sofyan.
The minister said the value of UK investment in Indonesia reached around US$5.1 billion in 2014, up from $3 billion the previous year. (ebf)(+++)
