Contesting against Asia's top beauties has drained the emotion and energy away from Indonesian model Ayu Lestari Putri Gani, 23, better known as Ayu Gani, who put her best in every single day in the third edition of Asia's Next Top Model contest.
Ayu saw other contestants sent packing and felt herself the topsy-turvy feeling when she was on the verge of being eliminated in the third edition of the contest.
The contest, which was popularized by the world's top model, Tyra Banks, and aired by television channel Star World, outperformed Marlene Monika Sta Maria from the Philippines and Aimee Rose Cheng-Bradshaw from Singapore.
In the ninth episode, when she was at the bottom two along with fellow compatriots Tahlia Rahji, she broke into tears worrying of looming elimination.
'I was nervous and losing confidence," Ayu told tempo.co in an interview, citing that she saw Tahlia being sent home early.
Ayu's nerve was again put to the test when her close friend during the competition, Barbara from Japan, went home early, since they both promised to stay until the top four. "I am losing my close friends. I must win," she said.
She recalled the competition as a long and winding road. "And I was relieved that I managed to make it through it." (dmr)(++++)
