ndonesian badminton player Andrei Adistia says he observes fasting during the month of Ramadhan, even though it means training on an empty stomach.
'Training is the same in the fasting month, Monday to Friday in the morning and the afternoon, and a half day on Saturday, especially because we are going to compete in the World Championship in August,' he told The Jakarta Post over the phone on Thursday.
The 25-year-old athlete was referring to the upcoming BWF World Championships, which are to be held from Aug. 10 to 16 at Istora Senayan in South Jakarta.
Before dawn, Andrei said, he ate a normal meal of rice and around three glasses of water. He then drinks syrup and eats fruit to break the fast after sunset.
However, he admitted that he trained less hard in Ramadhan and sometimes violated the fast if he could not stand it.
'I try to fast every day, but then I also measure my energy. I don't want to get sick, so if after a tough training session I'm really tired, I have to break the fast, unfortunately,' he said. (fsu/hhr)(+++)
