The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said on Saturday that it seized Rp 2.56 billion (US$192,025) in cash in the latest corruption case involving Musi Banyuasin legislators and officials.
The money was confiscated from the house of the member of the Musi Banyuasin legislative council (DPRD), Bambang Karyanto, in Palembang, South Sumatra.
The KPK arrested Bambang and his colleague Adam Munandar, who was also a legislator, along with two local government officials ' Syamsyudin Fei and Faisyar -- in a raid on Friday night
'In the raid, we found the money in a maroon bag,' acting KPK commissioner Johan Budi said as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that the money was found in Rp 50,000 and Rp 100,000 notes. The KPK's early investigation indicates that Syamsudin, who is in charge of the local government's budget and assets, wanted to bribe the two legislators to influence the DPRD's decisions on the regency's budgeting.
Johan also said that the KPK questioned drivers and security officers at the crime scene as witnesses in this case. (ika)(+++)
