ice President Jusuf Kalla said on Thursday that the government would increase the defense budget in 2016 in order to modernize the country'€™s weaponry systems.

'€œThe increase in the defense budget will be done in line with the state budget. We cannot do it instantly now. We will do it in 2016 state budget,'€ he said as quoted by kompas.com.

President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo said the government was committed to modernizing the country'€™s weaponry systems, including air transportation facilities. He made the statement in response to the incident of an aging Hercules C-130 cargo plane that crashed into a housing area in Medan, North Sumatra, on Tuesday.

Indonesian Military chief hopeful Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo said in a fit and proper test before the House of Representatives Commission I on information, defense and foreign affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday that he was committed to purchasing new cargo aircraft to replace the old ones being operated by the Air Force.
