ice President Jusuf Kalla said on Thursday that the government would increase the defense budget in 2016 in order to modernize the country's weaponry systems.
'The increase in the defense budget will be done in line with the state budget. We cannot do it instantly now. We will do it in 2016 state budget,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo said the government was committed to modernizing the country's weaponry systems, including air transportation facilities. He made the statement in response to the incident of an aging Hercules C-130 cargo plane that crashed into a housing area in Medan, North Sumatra, on Tuesday.
Indonesian Military chief hopeful Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo said in a fit and proper test before the House of Representatives Commission I on information, defense and foreign affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday that he was committed to purchasing new cargo aircraft to replace the old ones being operated by the Air Force.
