East Java Police to deploy 5,050 officers to safeguard Lebaran exodus

T

he East Java Police will deploy 5,050 officers in Operation Ketupat Semeru 2015 to help maintain security during the exodus of holidaymakers traveling from big cities to their hometowns to celebrate Idul Fitri.

"They are now conducting final checks on everything required for the operation," East Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Anas Yusuf said on Monday after a ceremony as quoted by Antara news agency.

Anas said the condition of road infrastructure for the exodus was adequate, but there were certain spots that needed attention such as those prone to traffic jams, accidents and crime.

"That's why we station snipers in areas prone to crime, but I don't think I need to mention the locations. The most important thing is we are anticipating it," he said. (hhr)(+++)
