he Demak Police in Central Java on Saturday evening raided a house in Bonangrejo subdistrict, Bonang, that was allegedly used to run an illegal firecracker-making business in a residential area.
During the raid, the police seized 11,040 firecrackers and 35 kilograms of explosive powder from the house and arrested the house owner, 46-year-old Solichan.
Solichan told police he only sold his homemade firecrackers to traders who regularly visited his house.
Demak Police general crime unit head Adj. Comr. Philip Samosir said the raid had been conducted to follow up on reports from local residents who felt worried about the presence of explosive materials near their homes.
However, police said they only intended to give Solichan a warning about his dangerous activities this time. 'We, however, will take stern action should he repeat his action,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
