ajib Razak will take legal action against the Wall Street Journal over an article alleging that 2.6 billion ringgit (US$686.3 million) was transferred into his personal bank accounts.
Najib's political secretary, Muhammad Khairun Aseh told a Malay daily that the report was criminal defamation.
'The report was done with bad intention and based on unsubstantiated and dubious sources.
'We will take legal action,' he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
Wall Street Journal and Sarawak Report published an article on Friday quoting an "unnamed investigator", claiming that almost $700 million of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds went into the prime minister's personal accounts.
The Prime Minister's Office responded to the report saying it was "political sabotage.'
1MBD insisted that no funds had been transferred to Najib's accounts.
Najib had also, late Saturday night, accused former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was 'working hand in glove' with foreign nationals, of being responsible behind the 'latest lie'. (hhr)
