olice have arrested a Tangerang councilor identified as PB for allegedly consuming crystal methamphetamine.
PB, a member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), was arrested on the third floor of a parking lot at B Fashion Hotel in West Jakarta on July 3 after police received reports of the suspect making frequent narcotics transactions with a suspected drug dealer identified as RS.
Police also arrested RS at his house in Neglasari, Tangerang city, later that day, and confiscated 3.12 grams of meth hidden inside a cigarette pack.
'He [PB] has undergone a urine test and tested positive to narcotics. He admitted that he had used several times,' West Jakarta Police's narcotic unit head First Insp. Rudi P. said on Monday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
PB and RS are now in the custody of the West Jakarta Police.
PB will be charged with drug possession under Article 112 clause 1 of Narcotics Law No 35/2009, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years' imprisonment, while RS will be charged with drug distribution under Article 114 clause 1 of the same law, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment.
