Alam Sutera bomb attack may be linked to IS: Police

he Jakarta Police said on Saturday that the perpetrators of a Thursday bomb attack at Mall Alam Sutera in Tangerang might be affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) movement.

Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian voiced his suspicion that the incident was related to the issuance of an IS fatwa calling for jihad in the holy month of Ramadhan.

'€œThere have been explosions in Tunisia, Kuwait, France. All happened after the fatwa was issued,'€ Tito said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Several terrorist groups were affiliated with IS, he said, adding that the suspected that these groups had committed the bomb attack after learning of the fatwa, which was issued by IS spokesperson Abu Muhammad Al-Adnani.

A bomb exploded on Thursday at a toilet at Mall Alam Sutera. No casualties were reported and police are still investigating the case. (ika)(++++)
