A 43-year-old man was killed over the weekend when fireworks thought to be his own products exploded.

Kliwon, a resident of Bondansari village, Wiradesa district, Pekalongan regency, Central Java, was at his home when huge fireworks exploded on Saturday afternoon.

Dandi Feriyadi, a 10-year-old boy, who was nearby when the incident occurred, was also badly injured, as his right leg was crushed and he suffered serious burns.

Pekalongan Police detective unit head Adj. Comr. Berry said it was suspected that the fireworks exploded due to accidental friction.

'€œWe are investigating the case. At the incident site, we just found pieces of newspaper. But some roof tiles on the house were damaged,'€ he said on Sunday.

The police suspect Kliwon to have been the maker of the fireworks. Dandi is being treated at Kraton Hospital in Pekalongan while Kliwon'€™s body has been buried by his family. (ebf) (+++)
