The grand finale of the Jakarta Cricket Association'€™s T20 Cricket tournament was held on Sunday at the GMIS grounds.

With the top two teams in the tournament '€” TKCC and Senayan Lions '€” battling it out, the final was expected to be a keenly fought contest, a release by the Jakarta Cricket Association (JCA) said.

It did live up to its reputation in producing a game of the highest caliber, one that saw TKCC tame the Lions by 22 runs in a high-scoring thriller and being crowned the champions of this year.

It was always going to be a battle between the batting might of TKCC and the sheer resilience of the Lions to match up to it. Winning the toss and predictably electing to bat first, despite an early loss of wicket, TKCC'€™s batsmen, led by Abhiraj Singh and Viraj Bhammar, kept the run rate up reaching 90/1 at the halfway mark of 10 overs.

With a strong platform laid, despite losing Viraj shortly after the break, powered by a brilliant century from Abhiraj, TKCC went on the rampage. Abhiraj remained unbeaten on exactly 100 runs, packed with seven boundaries and five sixes, with his runs coming off just 56 balls.

Apart from Viraj (46 runs off 30 balls) an in-form Chetan Suryavamshi (49 runs off just 21 balls) contributed with the bat, which helped TKCC score 129 runs in the second half of its innings, to finish with an impressive score of 219/4 in its full quota of 20 overs. For the Lions, Raj Kapadia and Rajiv Ramnarayan took two wickets each.

When Senayan Lions came out to bat, a six of the very first ball they faced suggested that this was going to be an exciting run chase.

Prem Subramaniam led the charge with a fine counterattack scoring an aggressive 86 runs off just 53 balls that were laced with 10 boundaries and five well-timed sixes. He was ably supported by Faisal Hashmi (27 runs off 21 balls) and Suhail Modak (27 runs off 21 balls) who kept the Lions in the hunt almost until the end of the game.

The match that was hanging in a balance right through the chase seemed to swing the Lions'€™ way when they plundered 34 runs off the 13th over, which saw five sixes being hit between Prem and Suhail.

However TKCC pulled things back in the 16th over, when they claimed the wickets of both the set batsmen off consecutive balls, virtually ending the contest, which saw the Lions, finish on 197/9 handing a 22 run victory and the championship to title favorites TKCC. Chetan (3/19) and Kartik (2/25) were the main wicket-takers for TKCC.

Abhiraj Singh was declared the man-of-the-match.

The best performers of the 2014-2015 season for the JCA league and the T20 tournament will be honored at the much awaited annual dinner that will be held on Aug. 8, at the Hotel Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta.

This annual event, which has seen several cricketing greats grace it in the past, will have the Australian legend Ian Chappell as the guest of honor to give away the individual and team awards.
