he Samarinda Police in East Kalimantan have recently arrested a 38-year-old man, identified as Dani, who robbed an Indomaret convenience store on Jl. M. Said, Lok Bahu, Samarinda, on July 27.
Dani told police he did not immediately flee after taking Rp 11 million (US$850) in cash from the cash register, but instead distributed the loot along the way, such as to street sweepers, garbage collectors, beggars.
'The money was finished as I arrived home,' Dani reportedly told Samarinda Police spokesperson Chief Insp. Agus Setyo, after he was arrested the day after his action.
He admitted he also distributed the loot stolen from an Alfamart convenience store on Jl. Jakarta, Loa Bakung, to people he regarded as deprived in the middle of the recent fasting month.
Agus, however, said police had so far been unable to confirm his statements.
'His admission of distributing the loot to the poor remains unclear. Which group of people did he mean?' Agus said.
Dani's claim, however, would not halt police investigation into his case, Agus added.
'We don't care about the claims because the most important is that we will process him in accordance with the crimes he committed,' Agus said.
