Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan has suspended the flight permits of six airlines for failing to meet plane ownership requirements
ransportation Minister Ignasius Jonan has suspended the flight permits of six airlines for failing to meet plane ownership requirements.
This suspension took effect on Aug. 1, 2015.
'The airlines are Asco Nusa Air, Air Maleo, Manunggal Air Service, Nusantara Buana Air, Survey Udara Penas Persero and Jatayu Air,' Jonan announced on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.
According to Article 118 of the 2009 Law on Aviation, regular commercial airlines are required to have at least five aircrafts to support their business. Meanwhile, non-regular airlines without fixed flight schedules are required to own one aircraft or two rental aircrafts.
Before Jonan's term, the regulation was never enforced. Jonan had given the airlines six month to comply with the regulation until June 2015, which was extended until July 2015.
He also gave airlines another option: they could merge to avoid being suspended. (edn/ika)(++++)
