Indonesia has received an early gift from social media giant Twitter for its 70th Independence Day celebrations in the form of special emoji characters.
'These emojis are a fun, colorful way to unite Indonesians during their Independence Day celebrations. These emojis evoke the power of nationalism & unity among Indonesians,' Twitter Indonesia media manager Teguh Wicaksono said in a press statement sent to The Jakarta Post.
Twitter has created two emoji characters related to Indonesia's Independence Day celebration. The first takes the form of the country's red and white flag, which will appear when users type the hashtag '#Indonesia', and the other is the 'Merdeka 70' (Independence 70) icon, with the hashtag '#RI70'.
These emojis have been available since Monday and a number of public figures have been using them, making them trending topics on Twitter in Indonesia.
'Twitter has always been the go-to platform for people to engage in live, public conversations about their passions, cultural moments and events taking place in the real world, and we know the theme will peak this week,' Teguh said. (edn/ika)(++++)
