rominent attorney Otto Cornelis Kaligis, who has been recently named a suspect in a bribery case, has refused to sign the dossiers of the case, causing a delay to its prosecution.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained Kaligis, along with seven other suspects including North Sumatra Governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho, for attempted bribery of three judges from Medan State Administrative Court (PTUN Medan).
The judges earlier handed down a verdict that released a North Sumatra administration official from social assistance corruption charges. It is alleged that the governor had sought help from Kaligis to convince the judges to deliver the ruling.
The antigraft body said it had completed dossiers on Kaligis and had extended his detention for the next 20 days.
Kaligis' lawyer Johnson Panjaitan said on Tuesday his client was not in good health and may not be able to stand trial.
'[Kaligis] has talked to investigators. He said that he does not want to meet [KPK] prosecutors. He has also written a letter to reject the case to be handed to the prosecutors,' said Johnson.
Kaligis previously boasted that he would like the case to be expedited to court for trial.
