Around 40 Indonesian food and beverage companies participated in the four-day Hong Kong Food Expo 2015 that started on Thursday.

'€œThis is a great opportunity for Indonesian food and beverage businesspeople to promote their products, not only to the Hong Kong market but also to the Chinese and overseas markets,'€ said Enny Ratnaningtyas from the Industry Ministry.

Enny indicated that food and beverage products had contributed about 30 percent to the country's non-oil processed industry products in the first quarter of 2015.

'€œDespite a decrease in terms of revenue compared to last year, the food and beverage industry continues to contribute significantly to domestic income,'€ she said, adding that exports of food and beverages to China had increased around 27.23 percent per annum.

'€œSo through the food expo, we want entrepreneurs, including small and medium enterprises, to broaden their knowledge of potential overseas markets relevant to their products as well as to develop new marketing networks,'€ said Enny.

Indonesian Consul-General to Hong Kong Chalief Akbar Tjandraningrat said that Hong Kong served as a hub for economic and investment activities including international trade.

'€œAlmost every international company has opened a representative office in Hong Kong, every year almost 60 million tourists from around the globe travel to the country, and there are more than 10,000 restaurants and diners opened in Hong Kong. This is a huge opportunity that should not be missed by Indonesian food and beverage entrepreneurs,'€ said Chalief.

Participants of this 26th expo comprised around 1,200 enterprises from 24 countries. In the current expo, there was a special area to display halal products from countries such as Indonesia, Brunei, China, and Iran. (nov)
