The Jakarta Civil Service Agency (BKD) said that only 10,000 out of 69,000 civil servants of the provincial administration had attended a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of independence at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Monday.

BKD head Agus Suradika said Jakarta civil servants who missed the Independence Day ceremony would be sanctioned.

'€œThose who failed to show up at the ceremony will forfeit a month'€™s worth of TKD [regional performance allowance],'€ he said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.

Agus, who is also former Jakarta Education Agency deputy chief, said civil servants who arrived late would be pardoned as long as they had a reasonable explanation. Civil servants attending the ceremony were required to fill in attendance sheets.

'€œThose who came late will be considered present. They will only be warned so that they don'€™t make a similar mistake in the future. All units must report their employees'€™ attendance to the BKD after the ceremony,'€ said Agus. (rad/ebf) (++++)
