ive Italians and one Belgian were reported to have gone missing in Sangalaki Island waters in Berau regency, East Kalimantan, at 7:10 p.m. local time on Saturday.
'They were reported to have been missing since Saturday evening and a search operation to locate them off Sangalaki is currently under way,' said East Kalimantan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Wahyu Widhi Heranata as quoted by Antara in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, on Sunday.
He said information of the missing foreigners had been received by the Derawan Island Police post head, who said that seven people had gone missing while diving in Sangalaki Island waters.
'The seven people reported missing comprised six foreigners and one local resident, identified only as Oslan, who acted as their guide,' said Wahyu.
The local guide, who a resident of Derawan Island, was found alive, he said.
'He was limp and is currently being treated at a community health center on Derawan Island. He is not yet able to give any information about the incident,' said Wahyu.
