T

he Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported on Tuesday that Indonesia had recorded a US$1.33 billion trade surplus in July 2015, the highest figure in 19 months.

'€œJuly'€™s surplus is ['€¦] the biggest since January 2014,'€ the agency'€™s deputy chief for production statistics, Adi Lumaksono, said in a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday as quoted by Antara.

He said the $1.33 billion trade surplus achieved in July 2015 was triggered by a $2.2 billion surplus in the country'€™s non-oil-and-gas trade balance, although the oil and gas sector still contributed a $870 million deficit.

BPS said that cumulatively, Indonesia'€™s trade balance for the period of January to July 2015 saw a $5.73 billion surplus.

In terms of volume, the country'€™s trade balance in July 2015 also recorded a surplus of 30.15 million tons, which was pushed by a non-oil-and-gas trade balance surplus of 30.68 million tons. Meanwhile, the oil and gas sector suffered a deficit of 530,000 tons.

Adi said that Indonesia'€™s exports in July 2015 reached $11.41 billion, down by 15.53 percent from $13.5 billion in the previous month.

Cumulatively, he said, exports for the period of January to July 2015 reached $89.76 billion, down by 12.81 percent from to the same period last year, which saw $102.9 billion in exports.

Indonesia'€™s imports in July 2015 were reported to have declined by 22.36 percent to $10.07 billion from $14.08 billion.

Cumulatively, Indonesia'€™s imports for the period of January to July 2015 reached $84.03 billion, down by 25.18 percent from $104.0 billion in the same period last year. (ebf)(++++)
