akarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama has said that a regulation for the operation of ojek (motorcycle taxis) in the capital city is badly needed and therefore he proposed the revision of Law No. 22/2009 on traffic and land transportation.
'A regulation on ojek operation is required due to the rise of the mobile application-based ojek services,' said Ahok in Jakarta on Wednesday, adding that ojek has become one of the main freelance professions for Jakartans.
'With the rise of the ojek mobile applications, we hope that their drivers can raise their incomes,' said Ahok.
Therefore, he called on the central government and the House of Representatives to revise the existing law to accommodate the existence of ojek as a mode of transportation.
Ahok explained that he had a meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla to discuss the legal revisions. 'The Vice President agrees with the revision of the law,' Ahok concluded. (nov/bbn)(++++)
