ocal telecommunication company PT Smartfren Telecom has launched its 4G LTE-Advanced (4.5G) mobile cellular network in Jakarta on Wednesday.
'High-speed connection is no longer enough; the important things are stable and reliable connections,' said Smartfren chairman Franky Wijaya.
The 4.5G is an upgraded version of LTE where it uses both Time Division Duplex (TDD) frequency and the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) at the same time, allowing an optimized bandwidth speed.
'The difference between 4G and 4.5G is that 4G uses a single carrier, while 4.5G uses a dual carrier system,' explained project management office (PMO) ZTE Indonesia vendor manager Vimal Kanagalingam as quoted by Antara news agency on Wednesday.
The Smartfren 4G LTE-Advanced Network will be available in 32 cities in Indonesia, using TDD 2,300MHz frequency as well as FDD 800 and 850 MHz frequencies.
ZTE Corporation supports the network infrastructure; it has provided 4.5G in Central Java, East Java, Sulawesi and Kalimantan, and also looks to expand further to eastern Indonesia. (rad/kes)
