Accommodation owners told to report foreign guests

T

he directorate general of immigration at the Law and Human Rights Ministry is set to crack down on accommodation business owners who withhold information regarding foreigners staying at their establishments.

'€œUnder Article 71 of Law No. 6/2011 on immigration, hotel and villa owners who do not report the presence of foreigners can face up to three months'€™ imprisonment,'€ the ministry'€™s director general of immigration Ronny F Sompie told a press conference on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

According to Ronny, the Immigration Office has already established rapport and cooperation with accommodation business owners through local immigration offices, but the support in terms of information surrendered has not yet been satisfactory.

'€œWhere they are staying; where they are going for activities; we need feedback ['€¦] concerning these things,'€ said Ronny.

He added that he expected owners to cooperate with local immigration officers to avoid the potential state losses.

On Thursday, the Immigration Office arrested 48 foreigners, comprising 13 women and 35 men from Taiwan and China, at a villa in Jimbaran, Bali, for allegedly being involved in cybercrime. (kes)
