Indonesia has Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan to thank for their heroic taking of the badminton world championship title as a present for the nation'€™s 70th anniversary.

In the final of the competition that began on Aug. 10, the third seeds defeated ninth seeds Liu Xiaolong/Qiu Zihan 21-17, 21-14 on Sunday to emulate their 2013 achievement as the wait of the home crowd inside Istora Senayan Indoor Stadium and millions of TV viewers was finally rewarded.

The medal was presented by Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi, whose unpopular soccer policy prompted boos from some in the audience before the national anthem Indonesia Raya was played.

Although the final match did not appear to be as tough as their semifinal encounter, Ahsan admitted to struggling to quash their doubts.

Great control of the Chinese couple. Congratulations on the title! It'€™s a special gift for Indonesia'€™s 70th Independence Day.

Well done! We are waiting for the next titles. The President should not only congratulate the duo but also give the pair special attention to inspire other shuttlers to win similar titles in other international championships.

Abdul Malik

Congrats, guys. You'€™re Indonesian heroes who deserve high appreciation and greater attention from the state.
