The government is currently reviewing the establishment of a state-owned enterprise (BUMN) for geothermal energy production.
"Geothermal energy has a potential of up to 29,000 Megawatts [MW], but has not been managed well for years despite its eco-friendly electricity generation," said President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Saturday as quoted by setkab.go.id.
According to Jokowi, Indonesia has always concentrated too much on electricity produced by coal.
"That is why we will move [the concentration] to geothermal, and there has to be someone in charge to manage it. We are currently reviewing and processing it, to establish a dedicated BUMN for geothermal energy," said Jokowi. (edn/kes)(++++)
