I fly my own little plane around Indonesia too and I always come across many Indonesian Military (TNI) helicopters everywhere... but then when AirAsia flight QZ8501 crashed, we only had one helicopter helping in the operation and a Sea Hawk that was from the US Navy.

Now we have this Trigana crash and we need to borrow a helicopter from a company we wanted to have removed from our shores i.e. Freeport. Where are our own helicopters?

When traveling through regional airports and with regional airlines, I always remind myself to check to ensure a morning flight and clear sky for landing, but don't have many choices to be honest.

Once I traveled to Cilacap and the little plane was equipped with a handheld GPS and a little ball-shaped Rp 27,000 (US$2) compass. Still a long way to go when it comes to aviation safety.

As indicated by the names on the list of passengers available from another article, among the Indonesians on board this plane, were dozens of West Papuans.
