he South Jakarta District Court rejected on Monday a pre-trial petition filed by lawyer OC Kaligis, a suspect in a bribery case involving government officials and the alleged misuse of US$20,000.
Suprapto, the sole presiding judge, explained that the court was rejecting the petition because the case had already been investigated and tried at the Jakarta Corruption Court.
Reading his decision, the judge quoted Article 82 of the Criminal Law Procedures Code that stated that any pre-trial petition would be considered void if the case had been brought before a court.
'Considering that the case had been investigated and tried, we decide to reject the pre-trial petition,' Suprapto said, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The judge also ordered the plaintiff to pay all the court's costs.
OC Kaligis' lawyers conveyed their disappointment over the ruling, arguing that the decision should have been announced on Friday.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) declared OC Kaligis a suspect in July of alleged involvement in a bribery case involving judges and a court clerk from the Medan State Administrative Court (PTUN). (ika)(++++)
