anur in Bali is set to be inaugurated as Indonesia's first tourism village for digital medium-sized businesses (UKM) by Tourism Minister Arief Yahya on Wednesday.
Held as part of the 10th Sanur Village Festival (SVF) on Aug. 26-30, the inauguration will take place at Pasar Sindu -- which became a friendly, fresh and hygienic market ever since it was revitalized five years ago.
According to head of Sanur Development Foundation Ida Bagus Gede Sidharta Putra, Sanur was chosen because it had been successful at empowering various sections of the society, including UKM, through SVF.
In addition to a gorgeous natural environment, Sanur is blessed with many vibrant arts, interesting cultural attractions and unique society characteristics that are energetic, dynamic and creative but also accommodating to foreign cultures.
"During the launch of the digital UKM tourism village, Pasar Sindu will be equipped with free Wi-Fi to help UKM people access the internet to support their activities," said Sidharta in a press release on Monday.
State-owned telecommunications firm PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) will support the Wi-Fi infrastructure availability based on fiber optic technology.
Sidharta added that various facilities and infrastructures would be added gradually to make Sanur a national window for UKM in terms of production, promotion and marketing.
In addition to the launch of the UKM tourism village, SVF will also feature attractive events such as surfing and jukung (traditional wooden boat) competitions, bike tours, culinary contests and festivals, cultural parades, international kite festivals, fashion shows, body painting, photo and painting exhibitions, film screenings and a stage dedicated to entertainment. The latter is set to feature traditional dances as well as musical performances from many artists including Sandy Sandoro, Indra Lesmana, Balawan, Endah and Reza and Mike Mohede. (kes)(++++)
