en Uber cars have been seized by the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) in coordination with Jakarta Police and the Jakarta Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) on Friday due to violation of Law No. 22/2009 on Traffic and Land Transportation (LLAJ).
According to Dishub head Andri Yansyah, the raid, which targeted both Uber and GrabCar, was organized after reports from the public.
'As part of the operation we seized ten Uber cars and sent them to Pulo Gebang in East Jakarta,' said Andri on Saturday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Andre said the vehicles, that passengers book using an app, do not belong in the public transportation category and thus were dangerous to passengers.
'We will continue seizing Uber and similar [vehicles] if they are still operating. It is dangerous,' said Andri.
He added that the owners of Uber and GrabCar had met with Dishub, Organda and the police and had agreed to obey LLAJ regulations.
'They will be allowed to operate after complying with seven requirements for public transportation, including establishing a dedicated pool, undergoing the KIR (vehicle road worthiness test), obtaining a tax identification number (NPWP), having a minimum of five units in their fleet and obtaining yellow license plates,' said Andri.
