UKABUMI: Police have nabbed a man, identified as Indra Okata Permana, alias Raden, 35, for claiming to be God and for allegedly burning a Koran.
Sukabumi Police Chief Adj. Comr. Sulaeman Salim said his officers visited the crime scene in Gunungkarang village, Baros district, Sukabumi regency, West Java and found three damaged Korans.
Sulaeman said the suspect, who had only lived in the area for a week, forced his followers to pray to the sun and did not require them to believe in Islamic teachings. He also allegedly abused one of his followers, Agus Wahyudin.
'Three of his victims felt they were hypnotized and were willing to follow his orders. The suspect beat his victims and told them to repent and to no longer read the Koran as he claimed he was a personification of God,' Sulaeman was quoted by tempo.co as saying on Friday.
