Jakarta Governor Basuki âAhokâ Tjahaja Purnama will turn a golf course in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, into soccer fields as requested by Vice President Jusuf Kalla
akarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama will turn a golf course in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, into soccer fields as requested by Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
'When we met last night, Pak Jusuf Kalla wanted the city to have [more] soccer fields. The golf course in Kemayoran is dozens of hectares long and could be turned into dozens of soccer fields,' he was quoted by tempo.co as saying at City Hall.
With more soccer fields, Ahok said he wanted to improve the level of soccer in the capital.
Ahok cited Brazil as an example of a country that had a good soccer team because it had many soccer fields that facilitated the enjoyment of the sport. He said soccer should be developed in Indonesia by organizing tournaments for players from an early age.
He said, for instance, that the city administration would organize soccer competitions for children living in low cost apartments in Jakarta. 'For a long time we have played soccer. Who knows with new efforts, star players will be born here,' he said.
The Kemayoran golf course was granted to the Jakarta city administration from the state secretariat.
Apart from developing soccer fields, the city administration will also construct low-cost apartments where the golf course used to be, said Ahok. (bbn)(++++)
