Almost 37,000 Indonesian pilgrims have arrived in the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to perform their haj pilgrimage, an official has said.

The head of the Mecca office of the Integrated Haj Computerized and Information System at the Religious Affairs Ministry'€™s Haj Management Committee (PPIH), Reza Muhammad Marzal, said a total of 37,031 Indonesians, including 450 officials, had arrived in Mecca on Saturday.

"As of 5 p.m. local time on Saturday, 29,996 pilgrims have arrived in Mecca after they finished mandatory arbain prayers in Madinah. They arrived in 74 flight groups," said Reza as quoted by Antara on Sunday.

He further said a second batch of 6,585 pilgrims arrived in Jeddah on Saturday and were directly flown to Mecca. "They departed in 16 groups," the official said.

With their arrivals, Reza said, around 23 percent of a total of 155,200 Indonesian haj pilgrims had arrived in Mecca. (ebf)
