Eleven airlines have been forced to reschedule their flights at the Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru, Riau, as a result of the smog.

The disrupted flights include domestic and international routes served by Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Batik Air, Indonesia AirAsia, Citilink, Susi Air, Silk Air, AirAsia, Firefly, Sriwijaya Air and Malindo Air.

"Since Sept. 2, most of the airlines have rescheduled their morning flights to the afternoon," said the state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II's head of service and operations at the Pekanbaru airport, Hasturman Yunus, on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

On Monday morning, the visibility at the airport area was only around 80 meters. As the sun got higher, the visibility was still limited, 150-200 meters, which was still considered dangerous.

"The minimal visibility for a safe flight has to be at least 1,000 meters. Usually after 11 a.m. the aircraft are able to land. But the situation has been getting worse for the past few days, causing airlines such as Garuda Indonesia, Citilink and Batik Air to reschedule and even cancel some of their flights," said Hasturman.
