anda Aceh Mayor Illiza Sa'€™aduddin Djamal announced on Saturday the dismissal of the city'€™s culture and tourism agency head, Fadhil, for approving the performance of an Indian Bollywood dance at a cultural event held last week in the Aceh provincial capital.

Illiza considered the Indian dance performed during the event erotic and in violation of sharia implemented in the region.

'€œ[We] cannot be paradoxical about the [implementation of] sharia and hamper our propagation mission to establish Banda Aceh as a madani [civil] city,'€ she said as quoted by tempo.co.

Earlier on Sept. 14, two dancers representing the Indian community in Banda Aceh performed a Bollywood dance during the opening ceremony of the 2015 Banda Aceh Art Festival, which was organized by the agency.
