Bahasa Indonesia is set to be offered as one of the optional foreign language courses in the University of Turku in Finland starting in August 2016.
Other foreign languages being offered at the university include Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese and Russian.
According to the university's rector Kalervo Vaananen, more and more people in Finland have became interested in learning Bahasa Indonesia, which is spoken by more than 320 million people.
Antara news agency also reported on Monday that Indonesian ambassador to Finland in Helsinki, Elias Ginting, had expressed support from the Indonesian government by providing lecturers and teaching materials for the course.
"The course will be a strategic effort to introduce Indonesia to the people of Finland, especially the students," said Elias.
The University of Turku is one of the oldest higher education institutions in Finland with 25,000 local students and 1,000 international students. (kes)
