Police have arrested a man for trading eagles and bobcats ' both protected animals ' on Jl. Raya Pemda Kedunghalang in Bogor regency, West Java.
Head of National Police Criminal Investigation Corps (Bareskrim) directorate of special crime Adj. Sr. Comr. Sandi Nugroho said that Yusup Supriadi was accused of violating the natural resources conservation law, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a Rp 100 million (US$6,800) fine.
'The seized animals include 10 young eagles, four adult eagles and five bobcats,' said Sandi as reported by tribunnews.com on Wednesday.
According to Sandi, the suspect and the animals are now under the custody of Bareskrim for further investigation and documentation.
In June, the National Police arrested another man Yogie Januari for trading other protected species including green pythons and green lizards from Papua. The police seized 30 green pythons and a number of lizards in Dermaga district, Bogor regency, West Java. (bbn)(++++)
