The construction of the underground mass rapid transit (MRT) system is 45 percent complete, according to city-owned project operator PT MRT Jakarta.

"Around 45 percent of the concourse area has been completed," said PT MRT Jakarta corporate secretary Tubagus Hikmatullah on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

The station design is comprised of two platform levels, one for the concourse area and the other for the train line. The former is a public area where commercial activities and ticket sales will be conducted.

"After purchasing tickets in the concourse area, passengers are allowed to go below to the train level," said Tubagus.

Six underground stations are being constructed in the first phase of the project: Senayan, Istora, Bendungan Hilir, Setiabudi, Dukuh Atas and Bundaran HI.

According to a report by kompas.com, the concourse's walls, floors and roofs at the Bundaran HI station have been physically completed. The area is approximately 400 meters in length and 25 m in width. Soon the tunnel drilling phase using tunnel-boring machines (TBM) will begin.

Two TBM are currently being assembled for use at the Bundaran HI station. The project should be finished in December 2016. (kes)(++++)
