Indonesia is set to showcase its culinary diversity at the 2015 Frankfurt Book Fair.
At the fair, running from Oct. 14 to 18, Indonesia is ready to share the archipelago's unique dishes and wide-ranging culinary traditions at the event as they participate this year as guest of honor.
According to one member of the Indonesian delegation, the director of Javara local foods distributor Helianti Hilman, Indonesia will showcase hundreds of local spices at the festival to garner global recognition as a spice hub.
"We have been collecting them from all over Indonesia for a year now," Helianti told a press conference in Jakarta on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
Culinary expert Bondan Winarno said that Indonesia was not yet adept at promoting its cuisine to the world.
"At the event, we will present Indonesian cuisine in a traditional way using food carts as well as promoting Indonesian street foods," said Bondan.
Another culinary expert, William Wongso, added that it would be the first time ever that the Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Minister has sent a culinary team of 40 people to the event.
Thirty-three Indonesian publishers will participate in the Frankfurt Book Fair, the world's biggest and oldest book festival. The event involves 126 participating countries and draws more than 260,000 visitors. (nov/kes)(++++)
