Jakarta Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama has issued a decree to recruit new civil servants for the Jakarta city administration.

When meeting with them at City Hall on Thursday, he warned the newly recruited civil servants that he would dismiss them if they did not perform well.

'€œYou are not secured yet. You could lose your civil servant status if you do not show good performance. There have been many civil servants who were fired,'€ Ahok said as quoted by kompas.com.

The new civil servants have been working for the city administration'€™s honorarium based-employees. The city has upgraded 525 honorarium employees to become civil servants since August. Currently, the city still employs some 4,607 honorarium employees.

He explained that he actually had no plan to recruit new civil servants, but the newly recruited civil servants have worked for years for the city administration as honorarium employees and they deserved to be upgraded.

Ahok said that he did not care too much about the educational background of the civil servants and as long as they performed well, the city administration would employ them.

He stressed that the performance of the civil servant would affect their remuneration. '€œI do not want the well-performing employees to have similar earnings with the lazy ones,'€ he stressed. (bbn)
